I find it very funny when people who have no knowledge about hair seem to know more than me. I’m the one with the license - I’m the one with the years of hard work and training who studied and taught the field and had a very good successful class that passed when i did the teaching. wow i put the video up to help the people at home to do their perms right but it seems some are still not following the procedure. Even the box gives a procedure, this is why hair is messed up! oh i forgot these are the ones that know more than me… i’m just having fun fixing all those bad perms… oh wow, i enjoy seeing women and girls hair fall out, going bald, dried up, overprocessed, yup!! thats my field yup!! Hey, you know more than me so you think?

We go off for months, even years, then we go back. Back? Where is that? That salon we used to go to. But wait, I go back but not alone! I have hair issues and need help! So I go back to where I know I can get it and boy do I have issues. My hair is breaking!, My hair is falling out!, I’m going bald!, I’m a mess so Heeeeeelp!!! I’m a blast from the past!

Why on earth did I choose to do hair and to deal with people, who may have a bad attitude, come to me and tell me what they think is right or wrong? Who says that doing hair is a great profession? Why did I take this for my livelihood job? I could have done anything! But no, I chose this - to deal with people of all races and backgrounds. But why on earth do customers tell me how to do hair? I’m the hairdresser! I didn’t train and get a license to just look at it! I tell you, I just love it when people tell me how to do a wet set or how to blow dry. Ha Ha! What about the customer who says “I can’t see!” but if you leave one piece of hair out of place they can see it - how’s that? It’s work dealing with the public. I do it and take a deep breath, when i need to, and remember how much I love to take care of hair overall - I love my job!

Why is it that women who get weaves do not keep check on their heads? You know “…the weave, its going bald! oh my goodness! the weave is bald!” I mean the hair on the wheft is literaly gone and the girl is walking around moving the hair from her face putting what’s left behind her ear - “oh! oh!” And every minute in the mirror, she’s brushing, not even paying attention to all the bald places that the public sees and nobody will tell her. They just look and say, “look at her weave! what a sight!” Well, me being a hair stylist, I will go to that person and ask them in a tactful way, “Did you know your weave has thinned out?” Oh yes, I’m not affraid to let a person know their weave is shot! Of course, if it happens in my town I’d give my card and hope to see her in my shop and give her a real weave and show her what’s up. But, oh my goodness, please ladies! never let your weave go out of control. Keep it in check and never let your weave go wild. Hair is our beauty - let’s keep it up!

Welcome to Fernettay’s “Doing Hair Right.” There’s much to talk about when it comes to hair - the do’s, don’ts and the how to’s. You might find it quit interesting to read what really happened in my years of experience.
